Interstellar (2014) | Review β
"We used to look up at the sky and wonder at our place in the stars, now we just look down and worry about our place in the dirt."
π°οΈ The Vitals β
- Director: Christopher Nolan
- Genre: Sci-Fi / Existential Crisis / "Where did my weekend go?"
- My Rating: βΎοΈ/10
- Rewatchability: Never get tired of it
π The Premise β
A desperate last attempt to save humanity from extinction. Cooper is recruited to lead a team through a wormhole to find a new habitable planet.
π οΈ The Technical Flex β
The rendering of Gargantua. It is still the 'Gold Standard' for a scientifically accurate black hole. Christopher Nolan partnered with Nobel Prize-winning scientist Kip Thorne to calculate the theoretical equations for this black hole. The process of rendering this generated over 800TB of data with some singular frames taking hundreds of hours to render on extremely powerful render farms.
β³ The Existential Dread Factor β
The mission in itself was very isolating. The predecessors on the Lazarus Missions (a series of 12 one-way missions to evaluate habitable planets) were followed by the new team about a decade later (The Endurance) to scout out these planets, and determine the fate of humanity.
πΉ The Zimmer Wall of Sound β
The soundtrack is incredible. It's extremely emotional and adds a lot to the movie. I would watch it again, just to hear the music. That's how good it is.
π¬ The "Love" Debate β
"Love is the only thing that transcends time and space" What do you think? Let me know
π The Final Verdict β
I think this is a 1000/10 masterpiece. That's open for debate over on the Discord and the Google Form
Top Scenes:
- Docking on the Endurance while spinning at 68rpm. "It's not possible, it's necessary"
- Miller's planet. "Those aren't mountains.. they're waves"
- Cooper sacrificing himself to save Brand. "Newton's third law. You've got to leave something behind."
- Cooper leaving home whilst the T-minus countdown is well... counting down. (~40-41 minutes in)
