πŸ“– Summary

Blair returns to her small hometown to care for her dying aunt, putting her New York dreams on pause. She gets a job at a local coffee shop, only to find her childhood best friend, Declan, running the place. They haven't spoken in four years. A messy breakup and a bad accident shattered everything they had, but now they're stuck working together, dealing with heavy grief, and trying to see if they can rebuild.

πŸ’ Themes & Ideas

The book really hits on how grief forces you to stop running and face the things you’ve been avoiding, especially when Blair and Declan's silenceβ€”which they used to protect each otherβ€”ends up being the very thing that tears them apart. It shows that hiding your pain to shield the people you love only builds walls, and that real healing requires the courage to be messy and vulnerable. Ultimately, it’s about realizing that home isn't some destination or career milestone, but simply the person who knows your whole story and still wants to stand by you.

✍️ Writing Style

The way the book jumps between then and now is just so smooth. Usually, dual timelines feel like a speed bump. You get yanked out of the story right when it gets interesting. But here, the past and present bleed together naturally. Sometimes you even forget which year you're reading about. It perfectly captures how memory actually works when you run into someone you have history with. Every little look or coffee order in the present is instantly loaded with years of unspoken feelings. It makes the heartbreak feel incredibly real.

🏁 Final Verdict

I'm still reading it, but I'd absolutley give it a read and don't listen to the Redditors.
